Greetings to all!!!! If youve been to old blog you would know that this entry was on my old blog too. I am putting it on again because i think that that article was really good so yer. Have you guys ever wanted why we listen to good music (if you know me you'll know what is my definition of good music) and other people listen to crap!! I have finally found the answer. And here is where i have found it. Yesteray i went to the ABC Shop at indro and i bought the new edition of the Triple J magazine (good magazine but abit expensive $7.95). On page 12 there is an article call "Why popular = crap" by Craig Schuftan. Thank you to Mr. Schuftan we now know why some people listen to crap. Here, Adorno accuses the music industry of offering the public substandard? Because it's mass produced. According to Ardono, pop music uses repetition, both in the structure of the music (the recurring bassline of a hip hop track, for instance) and from one hit song to the next (putting the last line of the song before the chorus through the "intercom" effect) to appeal to the largest number of people possible.People who like pop music might say that's none of Ardono's business and that these songs just make them feel nice inside. But that's the biggest problem of all - Adorno says that music like this is lulling you into believing that the world is OK, when in reality we are living in a nightmare of alienation created by capitalism.And, just in case you were thinking that listening to Bright Eyes,Public Enemy. The International Noise Conspiracy or Michael Franti lets you off the hook because they are trying to make the world a better place, think again..."All objectivist music (that's you, Franti) has the intention of diverting attention away from social conditions. It attempts to make the individual believe he's not lonely, but rather close to all others in a relationship portrayed to him by music..."In other words, as long as you're sitting at home and singin along to protest music, you're actually feeling good about the world, because the song makes you feel that you're part of a community in which the revolution has already taken place. Meanwhile, you do nothing but buy more CDs and t-shirt, and the world stays as it is.This might seem a little far-fetched, but imagine if he's right? What if music, which we are usually led to believe is a creative force for good, has ben lulling us into a passive, coma-like state while the world continues to get worse and we do nothing? It's like The Matrix, only with alienation instead of actual aliens. Now that's worth fighting over the stereo for. Turn it off!!THE ENDWell what didu guys think of that.
